Carpenter Ants Just Want To Find A New Home
Carpenter ants, for example, were found deep in the forest where damp undergrowth and a plethora of rotting wood made it very easy for them to enjoy this space.
With the advent of deforestation, and the penchant for people to stock their gardens with lovely trees and shrubs, this little creature now finds it much more attractive to come home to roost, so to speak.
Carpenter ants extermination is not absolutely necessary since they do not do as much harm as was first thought.
However, for those who just want the creatures out, finding a qualified company may be the best answer.
Decks and trees which are planted close to the home are ideal bridges for these creatures to find their way into the home.
Before this, when yards usually had quite a bit concrete barrier between the garden and the home, they found it extremely difficult to cross this divide.
Indeed, this is one way in which to deter these pests once they have been spotted.
The creature itself does not actually eat wood, as was previously thought.
What it does is to burrow into the wood to make a gallery for the rest of the colony.
Since there are only about four thousand in each colony, this is a relatively small problem for sure.
However, some people cannot stand the thought of sharing their home with these creatures so out they must go.
There are sprays and powders which can be used to eliminate these creatures but sometimes they are not as effective as one would wish.
Merely spraying here and there will not rid the house of them since their colony may be residing deep in the wood where the spray will not reach.
Also, the colony has to be pinpointed to feel any kind of effect and this may not be possible for some people.
So the first line of defense is to move wood such as decks, away from the house and to put trees at the bottom end of the garden so as not to attract them to the home.
If a concrete wall can be built around the garden, this should be enough for them to look elsewhere to start building their colonies.
This is not always effective of course since these creatures have wings for a short while.
This is to allow them to colonize in other places from where they are born.
They only have the wings for a short time so when they find somewhere suitable, the wings drop off.
If all this fails, it must be time to call in the expert since they will have all the information needed to rid the area of these creatures.
There are many of these companies online so comparisons can be made in relation to cost, treatments and effectiveness of their guarantees etc.
Choosing someone local may be a good idea since they can always be called out when other infestations are spotted.
