Eyeshadow brushes are a common and versatile makeup tool. Used to create a more professional look than the standard sponge applicator, they come in a variety of types for different uses. Eyeshadow brushes can be made of synthetic or natural bristles. A good set can last for quite some time and is a good investment for the regular cosmetics wearer. - Blender, fluff or round are the names for the general-application brushes that apply eye shadow to larger areas and do all-purpose blending. Larger rounded-end brushes can blend the bigger areas of shadow between the crease and the brow so the shadow appears to flow from one shade to the next. Smaller sizes can fluff or smooth areas, such as the corner of the eye, or more detailed spots.
- Crease, liner and flat brushes apply shadow to areas where you want to contain the colors or apply them to a specific spot. Along the edge of the eyelid, in the crease or just below the brow to highlight are common spots for this. These brushes are flat, similar to a paint brush, straight-edged or angled, depending on your preference. Their bristle pads come in sizes from large to very tiny. Designed to apply the shadow with precision, they are a staple of the eyeshadow brush kit.
- Angled brushes are used to add a smoky effect to eyes and create an exotic or dramatic look. Longer bristles with a chiseled shape to the ends come in either large or small bristle pad sizes. Larger angles are for the outer corners and crease to make a deeper smoky look. Smaller angles often on a dual tipped angle brush are used for the inner corners to highlight.
