Maintenance for Bermuda Grass

104 44

    Watering

    • Athletic fields and golfing greens need a regular watering schedule and typically use irrigation systems. Bermuda grass is drought resistant and will hold up on private lawns without regular watering.

    Weeding

    • Bermuda grass is aggressive and typically chokes out weeds once the sod takes root. Frequent mowing may help control weeds as well.

    Fertilization

    • This grass generally needs less fertilization than other grasses, especially in private lawns.

    Mowing

    • Bermuda grass can be mowed to very short lengths and still maintain its beauty. Mow the grass to heights between 1/2 and 1 1/2 inches. On athletic fields and golfing greens, it typically requires daily mowing.

    Pests

    • Pearl scale can be a problem for sod Bermuda grasses. Pearl scale feeds on the roots and is resistant to insecticides. Seeded Bermuda grasses are naturally resistant to pearl scale infestations.
