Regrets?Never!
Honor your past. Honor your future. Honor yourself. Take a bow! -- Happy Musing
This is a wonderful thought. The older one gets the more past there is and the more opportunity there is for regret. However, it is hugely important to live and function without regret. It is not that one wouldn't change an action in the past, but how else is one to learn? A very wise woman I know, Therese, explained it this way. At any moment in time we can only do what we do. It seems like we could have done otherwise, but at each moment we do what we do with what we've got. That means the knowledge, the impulses and desires, the pressures around us from society, the influences from the world and even the stars. Our actions lead us to consequences and the consequences teach us. So, have no regrets - understanding yes, but no regrets. Honor your past.
By letting go of the past, now we can bless our future and love our present by focusing on it. Then, of course, we must honor ourselves. Give credit where credit is due. We enter this game of life and ride the hills and valleys, surviving and learning as we go. No one escapes unscathed. But the secret is to keep going. Regrets make us trip over the present and at times miss it. By honoring all times, we honor ourselves.
You can find this pattern in every activity. I see it on the tennis court. A person hits the ball to a certain spot on the court, but his opponent retrieves it and passes him. The first person regrets where he hit it for just a moment, and in that moment he is no longer present and alert to receive the next ball that comes across the net. So he loses two points. Better to enjoy the whole game, good shots or bad shots, whether it's life or tennis.
I hope you are honoring you.
