How to Access a PC If I Forgot the Password
- 1). Turn off the computer. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the case.
- 2). Loosen and remove the Phillips screws or thumbscrews from the case cover. Remove the case cover from the computer.
- 3). Set the PC on its side. Locate the lithium coin cell battery installed in the circular slot on the motherboard. The jumper should be located near the battery.
- 4). Touch the chassis to prevent electrostatic damage to the motherboard. Lift the jumper from the first and second pins. Place the jumper on the second and third pins.
- 5). Wait at least 15 seconds for the BIOS password to clear. Return the jumper to the first two pins.
- 6). Reconnect the power cable. Turn the computer on. If the computer continues to ask for a BIOS password, turn the computer off and remove the power cable once again.
- 7). Touch the chassis and depress the lever holding the coin cell battery in place. Put the CMOS battery in an antistatic bag to protect it from damage.
- 8). Wait 20 minutes to an hour to reset the BIOS password. Reinstall the battery exactly as you found it before you removed it. Reassemble the case and turn on the computer.
