- 1). Right-click the Windows XP taskbar and click "Properties" from the menu.
- 2). Click the "Customize" button next to "Hide inactive icons."
- 3). Click the name of the program icon you want to change. This activates a drop-down menu next to the icon.
- 4). Click the drop-down menu and select a behavior for that icon. You can choose to "Always show," "Always hide" or to only "Hide when inactive."
- 5). Repeat this process for each icon you want to change, then click the "OK" button. The program taskbar icons changes based on your new configuration.
