How to Stain Over Acid Stain
- 1). Remove all furniture or appliances that may be covering the stained floor.
- 2). Place protective plastic covering and tape along your wall boards and door frames.
- 3). Dress yourself with all your safety gear. Make sure to keep acid out of your eyes and off your skin. Make sure to wear long clothing that you don't mind ruining. You will also want a face mask to prevent yourself from inhaling an vapors.
- 4). Clean your acid-stained floor with calcium lime and rust remover and a wire brush. Mix one cup trisodium phosphate with four gallons of water in the bucket. Scrub the floor with a trisodium phosphate and water mixture. You will be able to remove all stains from the floor with these items.
- 5). Vacuum the floor. Rinse the floor with clean, cold water and then let it dry for a few hours.
- 6). Vacuum the floor again to make sure to get rid of any extra debris. Let the floor completely dry overnight.
- 7). Mix the acid stain in a bucket and dilute it with a one-to-one water-to-stain ratio.
- 8). Fill the sprayer with the stain mixture.
- 9). Spray the stain onto your floor. Start in the back area of the floor and move forward going left to right. It's best to have one person applying the stain with the sprayer and have another person following behind with a broom to rub the stain into the floor.

Add a second layer of stain over the areas on your floor that have brush strokes. Repeat this process until the entire floor is covered. - 11
Let your floor dry by following the drying instructions for your specific brand of acid stain. - 12
Combine water and baking soda in a bucket and spread the mix across the floor. This will stop the acid reaction and remove any debris from your floor. - 13
Vacuum up the water and baking soda mixture. Don't step on the floor until the staining is fully dried. - 14
Angle a couple of fans towards your floor and let it dry overnight. If you don't have any fans, you may want to let your dry for a couple of days before stepping on it. - 15
Return any furniture or appliances to the area and remove the protective plastic and tape covering your wall boards.
