- 1). Sand the wood fence with 120 grit sandpaper. Wipe the wood clean with a tack cloth.
- 2). Sand with 220 grit sandpaper. Wipe the fence clean with a tack cloth.
- 3). Wipe the fence with a damp cloth to raise the grain and lightly sand again with 220 grit sandpaper. Wipe the fence clean with a tack cloth.
- 4). Wipe a coat of stain onto the fence with a cloth. Allow the stain to absorb into the wood for the amount of time recommended by the manufacturer then wipe off excess stain from the fence's surface with another cloth.
- 5). Allow the stain to dry for the amount of time as recommended by the manufacturer and apply an additional coat to create a richer finish.
