    • 1). Open windows and doors to help circulate air through the area from which you wish to remove smoke. If you have a room with limited to no windows, then bring in a couple of fans to help re-circulate and push air through the room.

    • 2). Replace any air filters from heating or cooling units in your home. These can hold in smoke and thus, no matter what you do, as long as they are circulating air, they will re-circulate smoke.

    • 3). Remove any light bulbs and wipe them down with white vinegar mixed with a little water, or change out any light bulbs in the room. Light bulbs draw in cigarette smoke and can have a lot of built up residue, which means every time you switch them on, smoke residue is heated up and emits itself back into the room.

    • 4). Remove anything in the room that can be washed in the washer, such as curtains, throw blankets and pillow cases. Toss into the washer and wash with regular detergent, then wash one more time using about ¼ cup of white vinegar. Dry as required.

    • 5). Make a cleaning solution of two parts white vinegar and one part water. Put solution into a spray bottle and spray all walls in the area liberally with the solution. Let sit for an hour, then spray walls again and begin wiping away any smoke residue until walls are clean.

    • 6). Pour baking soda onto all fabric surfaces, like carpets and upholstered furniture. Allow baking soda to sit for eight hours, then use a vacuum to pull it up. One trick is to pour baking soda before bed, then vacuum in the morning.
