How to Fix Rust on a Door Using Body Filler

    • 1). Sand the affected area completely using 80- to 120-grit sand paper. Remove all the rust and loose paint by hand sanding in different directions.

    • 2). Mix the two-part body filler in a container using one part dryer and one part filler. Mix thoroughly until completely blended. If any swirls are visible in the body filler, continue to mix until a uniform color is achieved.

    • 3). Apply body filler into the area of the car body to be repaired. Continue to fill area with body filler until level with finished surface. Smooth the area as evenly as possible with squeegee before allowing to cure. Allow up to 24 hours for body filler to cure completely before rough sanding.

    • 4). Sand smooth with sandpaper to even out body-filled section to form evenly with the finished body surface. Blend body filler into finished area using 400-grit sandpaper until smooth to touch.
