- 1). Use uTorrent to make a private torrent. This popular torrent client is equipped with a simple torrent creation wizard and built-in trackers. Users enable the built-in tracker under the "Advanced" options of the "Preferences" window and enter their external IP address in the "BitTorrent" section. The torrent "New Torrent" creation wizard under the "File" menu then guides the user through the rest of the creation process, which allows them to select the file or folder they wish to share. After the private torrent is created, they simply send the torrent link to whomever they wish for sharing.
- 2). Use Azureus to create a private torrent. Once the user has enabled the "Vuze embedded tracker" in the "Options" menu, found within the "Tools" drop-down menu, they may use the wizard to create a torrent. The "New Torrent" option under the "File" menu launches the wizard and the user is prompted to select the file or folder they want to use for the torrent. The resulting torrent link may be shared in an email, instant message, personal website or however the user prefers to share the information. Anyone who has the private torrent link and a torrent client will be able to download the file or file folder.
- 3). Use BitComet to create a private torrent. BitComet does not make use of a built-in tracker. However, the program allows the user to define the URL of a private tracker during the torrent creation process. Once the torrent creation wizard is opened with the "New Torrent" command under the "File" menu, the user simply clicks the "Private Torrent" check-box and fills in the tracker URL in the indicated area. This private tracker is the same for every major torrent client and is composed of the local external IP address and the listening port that the torrent client uses. This is written as "http://external IP address:listening port/announce" without the quotes. The resulting torrent file is then shared with whomever the user wishes to have access to the file or folder targeted by the torrent.
