How to Make Personalized Pans
- 1). Obtain a selection of colored ceramic paints from a craft store or hardware retailer. Make sure that the paint withstands high temperatures (at least 300 degrees Fahrenheit). This means that you can use your pan in the oven without the paint coming off.
- 2). Clean the pan using the using a sponge and detergent. Remove any residue, such as grease, oil or mildew, from the pan's exterior. Leave the pan to dry, once it has thoroughly been cleaned.
- 3). Design the pattern, logo, image or phrase that you would like to paint onto the pan. If you are an inexperienced painter, try keeping the pattern simple or copy a design that you are already familiar with. By tracing it onto paper first, you will have a good reference point while you apply the paint.
- 4). Use the permanent marker to copy the image from the paper, onto the surface of the pan. You will paint over the top of these lines, so you avoid making errors.
- 5). Apply the ceramic paint to the pan, following the marker's line. Also, follow the directions enclosed with the ceramic paint, so that you apply it correctly. Leave it to dry. You may need to expose it to high temperatures by drying it in the oven, depending on the type of paint you buy. This fixes the paint to the ceramic surface.
- 1). Source new handles for your pan. A kitchen accessory retailer, plumbing or hardware store will be able to find a suitable set of handles for your pan. Choose handles that match the style of your house, or other pans in your collection.
- 2). Remove the old handles by using a screwdriver.
- 3). Attach the new handles using new screws. Make sure that you securely lock the screws into place, to prevent the handles from becoming loose or falling off while you are carrying hot food. Twist the screwdriver until it has firmly tightened the screws.
- 1). Design the image that you would like to engrave onto the pan. To achieve this, draw the outline of the pattern on paper using a pencil. Then, copy this image on the surface that you want to engrave using a permanent marker pen.
- 2). Place the pan on a steady, even surface. If you need to, clamp the pan onto a work desk or get a friend to hold it for you.
- 3). Hold the metal engraver in one hand and the hammer in the other.
- 4). Press the tip of the engraver onto your chosen starting point on the surface of the pan. A metal engraver tool is used like a chisel. It is pushed at a slight angle against the metal surface, while you hammer the other end. This motion dents the metal, and thus, you engrave a pattern.
- 5). Repeat step 4 and continue to move the nib of the engraver along the line of your pattern until the entire pattern has been engraved. Use firm, steady strokes with the hammer to ensure that the engraving is visible on the pan's surface.
