How Do I Replace Patio Screens With Solar Screening?

    • 1). Use a tape measure to measure the widths of the patio frames into which the solar screens will fit. Buy solar screens that match these widths. Measure to the nearest 1/16 inch and order from a reputable vendor.

    • 2). Install the solar screen into the patio screen's lock channel if your patio screen is a newer model. Place the top of the solar screen into the upper channel, allowing the springs to snap tight. Place the bottom of the screen carefully into the window's lower channel. Tabs on the screen should snap into place once fitted correctly.

    • 3). If your patio windows do not include lock channels, you may need to replace the windows with glass already treated with a solar screen. Windows are held in place by black rubber called "spline." Use a screwdriver to loosen the spline and remove the windows. Replace with solar screens, again using a screwdriver to position the screen in place within the spline.
