How to Adjust the Sensitivity on a Sears Smoke Detector
- 1). Place a ladder next to the wall where the Sears-brand smoke detector is located; the detector could be at the top of the wall or mounted to the ceiling.
- 2). Remove the cover from the Sears-brand smoke detector by first removing the screws around the front with a Phillips screwdriver. If there are no screws, rotate the cover counterclockwise to remove it. Blow out the inside of the cover with a burst of compressed air. Wipe the edges of the cover with a paper towel.
- 3). Dip the cotton swab in the lens cleaning solution. Rub the sensor plate that is on the inside of the detector with the moistened end of the swab; the sensor plate is a curved piece of metal unlike anything else inside the detector.
- 4). Stop rubbing the sensor plate when the end of the swab is covered with loose grime and other contaminants that have entered the smoke detector and lowered the sensitivity of the sensor plate.
- 5). Blow off the inside of the smoke detector with bursts of compressed air. Place the cover back on the smoke detector; screw in the screws or rotate the cover clockwise as necessary.
