The shrub is a species of the rose family that originated in China and is often associated with spireas, another type of shrub. The Yellow Rose of Texas shrub blooms in mid-spring in Texas and produces orange-yellow, double-flower blossoms. Yellow Rose of Texas shrubs grow to about 3 feet in height and tend to have few problems with insects or disease. Most dwarf shrubs have a tendency to grow in a rounded shape. The creeping gardenia, as its name indicates, grows by spreading. As creeping gardenia grows, it can reach 3 feet in height and spread up to 6 feet. The foliage is evergreen and the shrub produces small, pure white blossoms that begin to bloom in early spring and remain through early summer. This variety of gardenia is fragrant and a hardy plant in the climates of Texas. Because of its hardy nature, creeping gardenia can be planted in pots or large containers for patio gardens in addition to being planted in the ground. The creeping gardenia shrub likes a moist, well-drained soil but is also susceptible to mildew, so it's important that there's drainage wherever the shrub is planted.
