Directions to Make a Custom Gun Rack
- 1). Measure the length of the rifles to be displayed on the rack. Take measurements from the stock to the barrel tip.
- 2). Cut two pieces of the hard wood 24 inches long. Use the router tool to customize the edges of the cut pieces. Design a custom edge to your liking with the router.
- 3). Sand down the cut pieces of hardwood until smooth and polished-looking. Apply the varnish or lacquer and allow it time to dry.
- 4). Sort through your antlers to find two that have near equal points--the amount of tines to the antlers--and that also have shapes that will cradle a rifle. Cut the antlers so they have a smooth end that glues and attaches to the wood pieces. Use the hacksaw to saw the antler. Use safety googles when buffing and sanding the antlers.
- 5). Buff the ends of the sawed antlers and sand them to give the ends gritty edges. These edges hold adhesive better than smooth edges. Measure a equal distance approximately 1/3 from the end of each wooden piece and glue one antler cradle to each piece of wood. Let the adhesive dry.
- 6). Locate two secure studs on the wall to hang the gun rack, using a stud finder. Mark these studs and measure out an equal distance to place each wood rack piece at the height you want. Drill the rack pieces into the studs and use wood plugs to hide the screws.
- 7). Empty the rifle of any live ammunition and set the safety on. Leave the chamber open and set the rifle into the cradle of the antler rack for a custom-designed display.
