- 1). Loosen the retaining nuts on the automotive battery cables. Pull the negative battery cable off the old battery, and place the cable away from the battery. Pull the positive battery cable off the old battery.
- 2). Loosen the battery hold-down screw, and move the battery hold-down arm so that it is clear of the old battery. Lift the old battery out of the automobile engine compartment, and place the old battery on the ground.
- 3). Lift the Optima battery into the engine compartment and place it where the old battery was. Move the battery hold-down arm into place to secure the Optima battery, and tighten the hold-down screw.
- 4). Place the positive battery cable on to the positive battery terminal. Tighten the retaining nut on the battery cable so that the battery cable end is tight around the battery terminal.
- 5). Place the negative battery cable on to the negative battery terminal. Tighten the retaining nut on the battery cable so that the battery cable end is tight around the battery terminal.
