    • 1). Press the "Windows" key on the keyboard and "R" key simultaneously to launch the Windows Run dialog box.

    • 2). Enter "regedit" into the dialog box and click "OK." The Windows registry editor will open. The registry editor contains information about how your computer operates. You can navigate through the registry using the pathways on the left and change the values of the registry keys on the right.

    • 3). Locate the following registry key by double-clicking the pathways on the left side of the registry editor:

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

    • 4). Locate the "Default" key on the right side of the registry editor. Double-click the "Default" key. An editor dialog box will appear.

    • 5). Replace the "Recycle Bin" text in the "Value Data" section of the editor dialog box with the new name of your recycle bin. For example, if you want to name the recycle bin to Trash, enter "Trash." Click "OK." Close the registry editor.

    • 6). Minimize any open windows so that you can clearly see your Windows desktop. Press the "F5" key to refresh your desktop. The recycle bin name will refresh to the new value you entered in Step 5.
