    File for bankruptcy on your mortgage

    • 1). Choose a bankruptcy path for yourself. If you file a Chapter 7, your debts will be discharged. Alternatively, a Chapter 13 bankruptcy will allow you to pay off your debts through a payment plan.

    • 2). Go to the bankruptcy clerk's office. Obtain the necessary forms for starting a bankruptcy case.

    • 3). Fill out the forms. Most importantly, you will have to file the petition for bankruptcy. You also will need to compile a list of your creditors and place that in the matrix of creditors form.

    • 4). File the forms at the bankruptcy court.
