How to Get Business Cards Made
- 1). Open Microsoft Word from your desktop or the Start menu. Select "Open a New Document" from the File menu. Click the Tools menu, and select "Envelopes and Labels" from the "Letters and Mailings" list. Click "Options," the select the "Labels" tab to create your business card template. Avery templates 5371, 5372, 5376, 5377, 8371, 8372, 8376 and 8377--corresponding to the Avery product model of the same number--are all business card size (2 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide).
- 2). To create a business card with no logo or images, type your name, profession and/or title, contact information and any other details you want to include on your business card in the blank label field. Select "New Document" to create a business card sheet. Save your template.
- 3). To create a business card that includes your logo, click the Text Box button from the Drawing toolbar, and drag the mouse to create a template area for your business cards. Insert your company logo or other image using the Insert Clipart or Insert Picture button, then add your contact info. Everything you want to appear on your business card needs to be inside the text box.
- 4). Once you have finalized your design, double-click on your text box, and a "Format Text Box" popup window will appear. Under the "Colors and Lines" section, there is a drop-down menu to choose the color of your border. Select "No Line," then click "OK." This will remove the solid lines around your text box.
- 5). Select your text box again. Under the "Edit" menu at the top, select "Copy," then "Paste." You will see a duplicate of your text box. Place the duplicate text box to the right of your original text box. Copy and paste your text box 10 times, and place each text box at two per row. You will end with two columns, with five rows of text boxes in each column. Save your business card templates.
- 6). Your document is now ready for printing. You can purchase card-stock paper from an office supplies store. Card stock is measured in pounds and indicates the thickness of the paper. Common card stock values for business cards are between 80 and 100 lbs. You will need to purchase paper in the standard 8.5-by-11-inch format. Load the paper into your printer tray, and print your cards.
- 7). If you prefer, you can bring your template to Office Max, Office Depot or Staples, all of which offer printing services. Store staff will help you choose the type of paper, card finish and number of cards you want. Select your options, then place your order. The store staff will call you when your cards come in.
