What Is Altered Art Jewelry?
Everywhere I look, there seems to be an altered art merged, sort of.
If you really want to enjoy altered art jewelry, the best way to start is to create your very own pieces by gathering your "junk.
" Look for loose items in your closet, tucked in boxes or even in your garage.
Also, you can try visiting a vintage, antique shops, garage sales or Estate sales for additional items.
Chances are you'll find quite a few interesting pieces to start working with.
Pick anything that captures your interest from buttons, beads, typewriter keys, bottle caps, game pieces and even old or dilapidated keys.
Next, is to combine them to form a beautiful masterpiece.
As they say, creativity is only limited by your own imagination.
The good thing about altered art jewelry is that you don't have to spend a fortune to assemble your own 'signature' designs.
It's all about how you see art from your own perspectives.
Altered art jewelry reflects your very own personality.
Now, I've seen many altered designs, but the most popular these days are the altered art charms and pendants.
Below are some quick tips on how to create your very own pendant.
First, you need to look for these things: Jump rings, Scrabble tiles, glue, silver plated bail, some decorative papers, diamond glaze (adhesive), pencil, a pair of scissors and paintbrush.
The first step is to trace the Scrabble tiles to the decorative paper and cut it out.
The cut out should be a bit larger than the tiles.
Using a paintbrush spread the diamond glaze sparingly over the backside of the Scrabble tile.
Attach the cut decorative paper to the tile.
Let it dry for 10-15 minutes.
Next step is to cut the excess paper to fit to the tile.
To seal the paper and give it a glass look, spread a sufficient amount of diamond glaze to the tile.
Don't forget to pop the bubbles, if any, and let it dry for at least 4 hours.
The last step is to attach your bail using the jewelry adhesive at the back of the tile.
Dry it for a couple of more hours and you have your very own altered art jewelry pendant.
Enjoy!
