Ayra Samaj And Society
In economic terms, the rate of its progress is very high.
However, there are lot of improvements required on the social front.
Gender bias, health and education issues, mortality rate, unemployment and poverty etc.
are the major factors which are plaguing the nation.
This brings us to another issue that India is facing today, that is the onset of western culture.
This westernisation has been criticised severely but on many occasions it is unavoidable due to globalisation.
On one hand, we are moving towards development but on the other do not want our culture to get impacted by western culture.
One of the major changes witnessed today is the change in lifestyle and mentality of the people as want to live independent.
As the opportunities to work are increasing, so is the need for taking all decisions independently.
This leads to a clash in the mindsets of older and younger generations.
For instance, people today like to choose their life partner irrespective of their castes.
Hence, inter caste and love marriages, which have always been a taboo in the Indian society, have now started gaining acceptance.
It was for this purpose that institutions like Arya Samaj have become important and Ayra Samaj marriage system is getting popular.
It was established in 1875 by Swami Dayanand (a Hindu religious scholar).
Today, about 4 million admirers worldwide support Arya Samaj.
In 1870s, Swami Dayanand started his efforts for reforms in India.
His work led to many Vedic schools coming into existence at that time.
In order to live up to its name, no idol worship was performed at these schools, only meditation was allowed.
As per ancient Vedas, no discrimination on the basis of caste or religion is allowed but the success was for short period due to lack of sufficient resources & all the schools were forced to shut down in a short span of time.
After that, Swami Dayanand soon started delivering a series of lectures leading to a manuscript under the title 'The Light of Meaning of Truth'.
Swami Dayanand starting travelling after receiving invitations from eminent people after his work became famous.
He visited Bombay, Ahmedabad, Rajkot and delivered lectures on various topics like Ayra Samaj Marriage, Ayra Samaj principles etc.
It was decided that the Rajkot Prarthana Samaj should be replaced by 'Arya Samaj'.
Despite facing problems in Ahmedabad (due to political dispute) the reform tasted success in Mumbai and never looked back from there and it 1875, Arya Samaj achieved its permanent place in Indian society.
Today, there is no hesitation in people looking to get married even without their parents' approval.
This has been made possible by this institution.
The whole process is inexpensive and can be completed in 2-3 hours, subject to the time taken to complete the rituals as per the choice of the boy or the girl.
A valid marriage certificate is provided as a proof of marriage that can be used for registration for their social security.
