How to Make an Envelope Pillow Case

    • 1). Measure the length of the pillow form by placing the end of your measuring tape on the seam at one end of the pillow and measuring across to the other end, being careful not to press down on the pillow. Measure the width of the pillow in the same fashion. Add an inch to each measurement for seam allowances.

    • 2). Measure and cut one piece of decorative fabric to the measurements you just took. (The easiest way to cut out your fabric rectangles is to use your rotary cutter and self-healing mat: simply lay your fabric down on the mat, measure then cut.) This will be your pillow front.

    • 3). Add 8 inches to the length of your pillow, then cut out another piece of decorative fabric for the pillow back, keeping the width the same. Measure to the halfway point across the length of the piece then cut it into two equal pieces.

    • 4). Hem one end of each pillowcase back piece edge by folding the open edge under by 1 inch and pressing with a hot iron. Fold the raw edge under and press again. Finish the hem by stitching across the finished edge. This will become your envelope opening.

    • 5). Lay your pillowcase front piece on your work surface right side up. Place both back pieces on top of the front piece right side down, making sure that all raw edges line up so the back pieces overlap to form the envelope opening. Pin the pillowcase pieces together.

    • 6). Stitch around all four edges of the pillowcase using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Clip the corners.

    • 7). Turn the pillowcase right side out through the envelope opening then stuff with your pillow form to finish the project.
