How to Repair Scratched Vinyl Flooring
- 1). Tape off the surrounding areas to avoid unwanted spills by applying masking tape around the damaged area. Apply the tape 1/2 inch away from the damaged area so that the repair adhesives won't glue the tape to the floor.
- 2). Cut the loose bits of vinyl from the floor with a razor knife. Sand down any rough edges with the sandpaper enclosed in the kit. Wipe down the damaged area with a damp rag to remove excess debris.
- 3). Mix the colors in the kit to match the floor color. Test the color out on clear tape. Follow the color mixing guide provided in the kit as a reference to match the color.
- 4). Paint inside the damaged section and around the edges with the matching paint color. Clean off any paint that gets on the surrounding vinyl flooring with a damp rag. Let the paint dry for 15 minutes, or speed up the process by using a blow dryer.
- 5). Fill the damaged section with filler powder, and even off with the floor using a smoothing paddle. Pour a couple of drops of bond into the filler powder until saturated. A dime-size hole requires three to four drops of bond. Let the compound harden for 15 minutes.
- 6). Brush clear acrylic finish onto the repair area, and let it dry for two hours.
