How to Make Old Fashion Newspaper Fire Logs
- 1). Fill a bucket with warm water. Submerge the newspaper into the water; start with three or four pieces. The newspaper will most likely float to the top. Using a rock or heavy object, put it on top of the newspaper so that the newspaper is completely covered in the water.
- 2). Soak the newspaper for five minutes. Once the newspapers are completely soaked, carefully remove from the bucket. Lay wet sheets of newspaper on a flat surface and smooth them out without tearing.
- 3). Hit the newspaper with a rubber mallet over the entire surface starting at the top of the page and ending at the bottom of the page working from side to side without tearing the sheets during the procedure.
- 4). Place your dowel at one end of the sheet of newspaper and carefully roll the newspaper around the dowel. Continue to roll the wet newspaper until you have rolled the whole sheet tightly around the dowel. Form and squeeze the excess water as the newspaper is rolled one sheet on top of another. Mold the newspaper into a fire log with your hands during this procedure.
- 5). Remove the dowel from your finished fire log carefully. Place the finished fire log in a sunny or dry area. Allow the old fashioned fire log to dry completely. It may take a large fire log made from recycled newspaper up to three days before it completely dries.
