List of Things to Carry for International Students
- There are a host of documents required to travel including your passport or visa. Be sure you have your driver's license, records of immunization, numbers in case of emergency and detailed information on where you're going and who to contact in case you get lost. With all the anxiety of packing, some travelers make the mistake of leaving their airline tickets behind; put them in a safe place to avoid a nightmare at the airport. In case of emergency, have a copy of medical insurance as well.
- No matter if you have a regular prescription that you're required to take or are prone to allergies and irritations, but sure that you pack enough medicine for the duration of your trip. You don't want to be caught in the middle of a 20-hour flight hyperventilating without your inhaler. Fill any necessary prescriptions and bring a copy of new prescription details in case you experience any side effects you weren't expecting.
- As you're traveling and have to deal with cash currency exchange systems, remember that international credit cards can be used wherever you go. Carry your MasterCard or VISA with you but be sure to leave those you don't need behind so you don't have excess, unnecessary items.
- Be sure you have all required documents, supplies and books necessary for the class. In the event that some of your books are not available overseas or you cannot access items at the same cost, it's better to be prepared and make sure that you have everything required by the professor before you depart.
- From outlet adapters for curling irons and hair dryers to lotions and hair spray, opt for sample sizes of your personal beauty items so you can save space in your luggage to avoid additional traveling fees. Remember to bring a translation book if you don't speak the language, photos of your family or friends in case you become anxious about being so far from home and some of your favorite snacks like a package of jelly beans or hard candy.
