How to Get Rid of Razor Bumps on the Neck
- 1). Wash your neck with an antibacterial cleanser before shaving. Since shaving opens up your pores, bacteria and dirt can easily enter them if the area is not clean. When you use an antibacterial cleanser prior to shaving, you can effectively remove any bacteria which may lead to razor bumps.
- 2). Spread a shaving cream or gel on your neck. Never shave your neck without using a lubricant of some kind. While standard soap or bath gel is better than nothing, you'll more quickly get rid of razor bumps if you use shaving cream. If you are prone to razor bumps, use a shaving cream or gel that is designed for sensitive skin.
- 3). Use a new razor every two to three shaves. You will be much more likely to get razor bumps when you use an old razor blade. Dull blades aren't able to quickly slice the hair. Instead, they slowly cut hair, pulling on the skin in the process. In addition, bacteria often reside on old blades, which exacerbates razor bumps.
- 4). Soak a washcloth in warm water and apply it to your neck prior to shaving. This will help to soften both the hair and your skin, making the shaving process more effective. As a result, your skin will be less irritated and you'll experience fewer razor bumps.
- 5). Dip a cotton ball in toner and apply it to your razor bumps. You can also use astringents or lotions that are specifically designed to get rid of razor bumps. Most products contain alcohol, which tightens pores and kills bacteria. For a natural method, apply witch hazel to your razor bumps, as it disinfects in a similar manner.
- 6). Apply hydrocortisone cream to your razor bumps. This cream soothes irritated skin and aids in the skin's recovery process. Use a thin layer on the area at least twice daily until your razor bumps are gone.
