Foot Damage From Flip-Flops

    Hammertoes

    • Hammertoes can occur when wearing flip-flops, because your toes scrunch up to keep the flip-flops on your feet. This can permanently cause your tendons to shorten, making your toes unable to stretch out fully.

    Arch Support

    • When there is no support in the foot's arch, you can develop plantar fasciitis, or a severe pain in the arch or heel. It must usually be treated by a podiatrist.

    Ankle Sprains

    • Flip-flops can cause sprains in the ankle. Because they provide no support for your ankle, it can roll over the foot more easily, causing falls and sprains.

    Dropped Objects

    • When wearing flip-flops, your feet are more exposed and more prone to being hurt when something drops on them or someone else steps on your feet.

    Skin Cancer

    • When you wear flip-flops, more of the skin on your foot is exposed to the sun's rays. People rarely think to put sunscreen on their feet, but feet need sunscreen just as much as faces or arms.
