- Divide children into groups and give them each a recipe for making applesauce. Talk about how Johnny may have made applesauce using his pot hat.
- Lead kids on the Johnny Appleseed trail by letting them trace his steps on a large wall map. Use apple or red push pins to mark each place he stopped.
- Commemorate Johnny Appleseed by planting an apple tree or trees. Use a wooden stake sign to dedicate the tree to this American legend.
- Slice apples into two pieces and let kids use the pieces as paint stamps. They could use red paint to stamp brown construction paper.
- Let kids draw an apple dissection.You could cut several in half to show the children the insides. After they draw their apples have them label the parts, skin, meat, core and seeds.
