How to Install a One Piece Counter & Sink in a Bathroom
- 1). Set the counter and sink on the vanity and push it back so that each end is an equal distance from the wall.
- 2). Tape the backsplash and sides that meet a wall with white masking tape. Normally, unless your walls are exceptionally straight and square, you must scribe along the wall with a pencil and use a belt sander to sand up to the lines. If you are using side splashes, only the front one inch needs to touch. Hold your pencil (or use a scribe tool) using your fingers as a consistent guide and draw a line around the backsplash and side.
- 3). Sand up to your line with a belt sander using a 60 or 80 grit sanding belt. Angle the sander so that you are sanding at a 5 to 10 degree angle except on the very end which is viewable after the top is installed.
- 4). Set the counter and sink back on to the vanity and check your fit. If it fits well, take out the top. If it still does not fit tight against the wall, scribe it again.
- 5). Apply clear silicone caulking to the top of the vanity everywhere the top will meet the counter and sink.
- 6). Set the sink back on to the vanity and push it into place. Use tape to keep the top from sliding around.
- 7). Scribe the side splash and sand up to the line with a belt sander. Set the side splash in a bead of silicone or adhesive caulk and use tape to hold it in place until the caulking sets up.
- 8). Caulk along the backsplash with a color that matches the counter and sink.
