Formal Short Prom Hairstyles

    Bohemian Chic

    • For a beautiful, yet carefree, look, apply texturizing cream to your hair and blow dry with a paddle brush until your hair is straight. Mist small sections of hair with hairspray, then curl with a 1-inch barrel curling iron. Once all of your hair is curled, run your fingers through it so that the ringlets look natural and loose. Part your hair directly in the middle, going all the way back to the crown. Finish the look by misting with hairspray, then add a thin metallic headband for extra flair. This style works well with bob haircuts.

    Romantic Tendrils

    • This romantic hairstyle is excellent for curly hair, but if you have straight hair, you can definitely make it work. Start by dividing damp hair into 2-inch sections, and apply curling cream to each section. Shake out your hair and blow dry with a diffuser to create waves. Avoid unnecessary frizz by keeping your hands out of your hair as much as possible. Define curls around your face with a small-barreled iron and mist with hairspray. Gently pin hair up and back, away from your forehead. If your hair is very short, messily pin it up to allow curls to fall loosely where they may. If your hair is long enough, fasten it into a small bun.

    Sleek and Sophisticated

    • This sweet, but edgy, hairstyle works for all lengths of short hair, from shoulder-length to pixie cut. First, apply a volumizing mousse to your roots and tease hair on the top of your head. Put styling gel on a comb and slick back the sides, then comb the back of your hair downwards. To keep your hair in place the whole night, mist with a super-hold hairspray. Since your hair is slicked back and away from your face, this hairstyle is perfect for showing off bold lips or eyes and an impressive pair of earrings.

Cut it shorter, or change the color

    • If you feel like being bold and making a lasting impression at prom, consider trying a new haircut. If you feel like you can pull off a short pixie cut or choppy layers with blunt bangs, go for it! Changing your hair color can also change your look. To add extra glamour, incorporate hair accessories. Not only do they keep your hair in place, they can add so much more to your hairstyle. To keep bangs away from your forehead, fasten hair with a delicate rhinestone bobby pin. Add extra flair with a headband that complements your dress, or accent a bun with a jeweled barrette. Make sure to bring extra product such as hairspray or mousse and bobby pins with you to the prom, so that you are ready to tend to any possible hair emergency and can continue to dance the night away.
