There are many causes of female infertility. Endometriosis is a disorder of the female reproductive system which is to blame for a significant number of fertility problems in the country today. Endometriosis usually causes female infertility mainly because it usually leads to the formation of scar tissue, cysts and adhesions, things which usually interfere with the normal process of reproduction in human beings. In addition to this, it is usually accompanied by symptoms that can make the life of the affected woman unbearable especially because of the resulting pelvic and abdominal pain.
An endometriod cyst, also known as a chocolate cyst, is a type of ovarian cyst that is usually associated with endometriosis. This type of cyst on ovary may sometimes become large. This growth may cause it to rupture and thus resulting in the damage of the ovaries. This may result in permanent infertility, especially if both ovaries get damaged as a result of the chocolate cyst. With both ovaries damaged, ovulation will be impossible and thus making it difficult for a woman to get pregnant naturally. The fluid from a ruptured chocolate cyst may also expose a woman to infections which may cause scarring of the uterus and the fallopian tubes. This may not only interfere with implantation and fertilization process, but it may also lead to pregnancy complications such as an ectopic pregnancy.
Endometrial tissues may be deposited in the fallopian tubes as a result of endometriosis. These tissues may form scars in the fallopian tubes and may even end up blocking the fallopian tubes. With a womans fallopian tubes blocked, it is usually impossible or difficult for fertilization to take place considering that the obstacle created by endometriosis may block sperms from reaching the egg to fertilize it. Even if fertilization occurs, implantation on the uterine wall may not occur as a result of the egg facing difficulties moving through the fallopian tubes.
The symptoms of endometriosis can sometimes be severe and thus calling for the removal of the uterus. Through such a surgical procedure, a woman will lose her ability to get pregnant naturally due to the lack of a uterus. A woman may become permanently infertile if her fallopian tubes and ovaries are also removed through surgery. There are also cases where women with endometriosis suffer from various hormonal dysfunctions. This may result in weaker implantation and early miscarriages and thus making it difficult for women to get pregnant.
