Stafford Township, known as the gateway to the summer beach towns on Long Beach Island, is known for its golf courses, railroad museum and summer festivals. The township is primarily residential with its largest town being Manahawkin; but although the township has an old-fashioned, small town feel, there are many fine restaurants to experience while visiting the area. - Mud City Crab House is located just west of Long Beach Island on the Jersey shore. In business since 1999, the restaurant was named "Best of the Shore 2008" by South Jersey magazine and "Best Crab Cake 2007" by New Jersey Monthly magazine. Known for its homemade crab cakes, steamed crabs and buckets of mussels, Mud City also serves soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta, chicken and filet mignon. Dinner entrees include butterfly shrimp, stuffed flounder, fried oysters and grilled tuna. The restaurant is open daily in the summer, has limited hours in the spring and is closed during the winter months.

Entrees feature seafood, chicken, burgers and steaks, including such dinner dishes as crab-stuffed flounder, baby back ribs and lobster ravioli. A two for one appetizer or pizza dinner special is available nightly, and each weekday the restaurant offers a different lunch special for $4.95 as of 2010.
