How to Make Colored Body Oils
- 1). Mix 1/2 cup of sweet-almond oil, 4 drops of vitamin E, 1 cup of chopped lemon, lime or grapefruit peel in a large freezer zip-close plastic bag. Close the bag tightly and gently shake a few times. Do not be vigorous. Pour the mixture into a sterilized canning jar and put in a warm place for 24 hours.
- 2). Pour the mixture from the jar through a cheesecloth, or gauze like material, into a second, sterilized canning jar. Try to squeeze out as much of the liquid as possible. Dispose of the liquid. Do not reuse the cheesecloth or gauze.
- 3). Make another batch of the mixture you mixed in Step 1. Put the mixture into a canning jar. Put the jar in a warm place for 24 hours.
- 4). Strain the mixture you made the second day, using a fresh cheesecloth, and pour it into the jar containing the mixture from the first day. Again try to squeeze out as much of the liquid as possible and dispose of the liquid.
- 5). Make another batch of the oil mixture on the third day. You should have two days of liquid in the second jar and a fresh batch in a new jar. Place both jars in a warm place for 24 hours.
- 6). Pour the mixture you made on the third day into the jar containing the mixture from days one and two through fresh cheesecloth or gauze. Squeeze as much as possible and discard the used cheesecloth.
- 7). Make another oil mixture on the fourth day, and allow it to sit in a warm place for 24 hours. Pour the fourth day's mixture into the jar with the mixture from the other three days through cheesecloth, extracting as much liquid as possible, and discard the cheesecloth.
- 8). Strain the liquid you have been gathering for four days through the cheesecloth one more time. Pour the mixture into a dark, sterilized canning jar or medicine bottle. There will be a slight color depending on what fruit you used in the oil. If you are satisfied with the color, you are done. If you want a deeper color continue to the next step.
- 9). Gather freshly-picked red roses that are starting to open. Crush the rose petals in a mortar and pestle. Add an ounce of water for a deep red color. If you want a lighter pink, add a teaspoon of vinegar to the water. For purple, add a half teaspoon of baking soda to the water. For blue, add full teaspoon of baking soda. When you have the color you desire, add it to the oil mixture with an eye-dropper until you get the color you want.
