    Menu Bar

    • The Menu bar contains all of the QuickBooks commands needed to perform day-to-day tasks. The Menu bar consists of 14 menus. The File menu is used to open, save and close companies, as well as access utilities such as performing a backup of the system. The Edit menu contains access to your preferences, such as the calculator. The View menu is used to change the view options, such as showing or hiding the Navigation bar, or showing or hiding windows. You would use the List menu to access the chart of accounts list, items list, class list. The Favorites menu displays the most commonly used menu items. The Company menu, Customers menu, Vendors menu, Employees menu and Banking menu are used to access the corresponding list and screens. You access your QuickBooks and Memorized Reports lists through the Reports menu. The Online Services menu provides access to online services offered by Intuit. Use the Windows menu to toggle between open windows and to change how windows are displayed. The Help menu is used to access QuickBooks Help.

    Navigation Bar

    • The Navigation bar provides you with easy access to your QuickBooks Centers. Centers are used to access information on Customers, Employees, Vendors and Reports. You can also use the Navigation bar to return to your Home page, go to Online Banking, access documents and adding a new payroll. You could access the same items using the Menu bar; however, the Navigation Bar is easier to use

    Icon Bar

    • The Icon bar is a customizable bar that displays items hidden in the Menu bar. This provides you with quick access to common tasks without having to navigate through menus and submenus. The Icon bar is organized in four groupings: Customers, Vendor Activity, Banking, and General Ledger and Reminders, Query and Reporting. Each of these groupings contains icons to perform common tasks with each item.

    Customization

    • QuickBooks allows you some customization of the Navigation bar and the Icon bar. You can hide or display the Navigation bar by selecting “Navigation Bar” from the View menu. To add or remove icons on the Icon bar, select “Customize Icon Bar” from the View menu. Select the item to add and click the “Add” button. Enter the text that you want to display below the icon in the Label field. Click “OK.” You can also reorder the icons in the Customize Icon Bar screen by clicking on the diamond to the left of the icon and dragging it to a different location.
