Welcome to the Back of Beyond!

I have to be honest with you, when Ralph told me that we were headed for Burlington Vermont, I nearly cried. Can anything good come out of Burlington?

More to the point, can you actually find anything fun to do in Vermont?

Hey guys, it's me again, Shelby, and while I was at first dubious about finding anything fun to do here in Maple Syrup country, once I got past my old emotional blocks regarding the V State I found that there was indeed fun to be had!

Enough that I can fill up several articles about it in fact, so hang on to your hats!

You know, the last time I visited the Burlington area I was with my (then) high school sweetheart, and we were in the process of breaking up, so I didn't have very good emotional associations with the town.

In fact, just driving past the €Welcome to Burlington€ sign gave me the shudders, and I was resigning myself to shutting myself up in my hotel room for the duration of the trip when I saw a sign for the €Muddy Waters€ coffee shop and I decided that I was not going to give up!

Just because I was in the back of beyond did not mean that there was nothing fun to do. I would find the fun things to do in Burlington if it was the last thing I did! It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be.

One of my many memories of Burlington was of a town knee deep in snow and ice (I visited my boyfriend over winter break), so just being able to come here when the sun is warm and all of the stores are dressed up in their finest in order to impress the tourists made a big difference for me.

After all, it really is quite the beautiful town!

For one thing, it located right on the edge of Lake Champlain which gives it quite a bit of scenic beauty.

Add to this the fact that much of the architecture was put in place during the Victorian time frame.

You've got a rather charmingly laid out town that looks more like a village out of a Dickens novel than anything else.

While the whole area may seem to be snowbound during the winter, and while it is hard to forget the way that ice cold wind blew in from the lake.

During the summer it is a whole different ball game.

One that I found myself falling in love with in spite of myself.

Not only does Burlington boast a wide range of high class restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and other eateries.

It has some of the most adorable shopping I have ever come across, not to mention it's cultural arts center, art galleries, community festivals and events and even a bit of nightlife for the daring and the brave.

And once the winter winds have died down, it turns out that Burlington is also an amazing place if you like to get out of doors and do things like play on the lake, go rock climbing, mountain climbing, hiking, biking or any other number of outdoor activities.

So strap yourselves in guys, I'm going to take you on a whirlwind tour of this awesome little town up in the north of Vermont, and by the time I'm done I'm betting that you will have fallen in love too!

Bye for now!

Love, Shelby (S.O.S.)
