Ski Areas in the Poconos
- The Poconos is a mountainous area in northeastern Pennsylvania that encompasses around 2,400 square miles and spans through Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties, reports the Poconos Mountain Visitors Bureau. The region is home to 150 lakes that provide summer recreation like boating and fishing, but the Poconos has long been known for its winter sports. Skiers and snowboarders visiting the region can stay at one of the Poconos many ski areas.
- Big Boulder first became a destination for skiing in 1942 when it opened under the name Split Rocks Lodge as a private retreat for employees of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation. The resort area has operated under its current name since 1949 and is known for being one of the first ski areas to make its own snow. The area features seven terrain areas for skiing and snowboarding, three beginners, two intermediate and three expert slopes. A snow-tubing park is also featured, as well as clinics, group and private lessons for adults and children. The Resort at Split Rock is located at the ski area and is home to five restaurants.

The resort is known for the Big Air Bag, inflated cushions that work to soften the landing of skiers and snowboarders practicing jumps. There are 34 trails at Blue Mountain, covering 158 acres. The resort's snow tubing park features 21 chutes and a cafe. The area's two lodges, the Summit and Valley feature nine restaurants that range from taverns to family restaurants to places to grab a quick bite. There are no overnight accommodations at Blue Mountain, but more than two dozen hotels, motels are nearby, including a bed and breakfast like the Inn at Jim Thorpe and Scottish Inn and Suites.

The mountain features 34 trails with the majority of the slopes suitable for novices. The snow-tubing park has chutes wide enough for up to four passengers. Condominium rentals and the Chateau Resort & Conference Center provide accommodations at the Camelback Area. Nine bars and restaurants are available on the mountain, including places for breakfast, pizza and barbecue.
