Whoever coined the phrase "It's a dogs Life" certainly hadn't any idea the amount of changes that would come about to make your favorite pooch's life easier, more fun, and much more comfortable.
Take dog beds for example.
They come in a host of shapes, sizes, colors and are made for both the dog house and your house.
There are dog beds for inside or outside for in the crate and in the family room.
There pad beds, pillow beds, bolster, nesting and corner beds made for dogs.
There are also elevated beds and beds made of memory foam to hug and support your canine friend.
And let's not forget there are a variety of heating and cooling beds as well as fantasy beds complete with pillows and tassels and even ones made to look like sofas.
The only thing that seems to be missing is a trundle bed for those overnight guests of your precious darling.
Why Your Dog Should Have A Bed Although the selection might be a little mind boggling having a dog bed for your four legged companion is actually a smart idea.
A dog bed gives your dog a place of his own where he feels safe and gets rest comfortably.
As dogs get older they sometimes find floors too hard on their aging joints and bones and need a soft place so they can get adequate rest.
Dog beds also help cut down on shedding by helping to keep much of it in one spot.
When all is said and done it is the least we can do for those wonderful pets that bring us so much joy and companionship.
Your dog's bed doesn't have to be anything fancy, you can even make one yourself by folding a couple of old blankets in half, thirds, or quarters and sewing around the edge of it.
They won't be as fancy as the store bought ones but your dog won't care as long as he is comfortable.
Of course, you might want something a bit more attractive if you are going to have your dog's bed in a place where guests might see it.
What You Should Look For In A Dog Bed The most important thing to look for in a dog bed is cushion.
You want the bed to have enough cushion to protect you dogs joints from the cold hard floor.
By cushioning his joints he less is likely to, especially as he ages, wake up stiff and sore in the morning or after a nap.
Cushioning also means he is more likely to use his bed rather than your new sofa when he wants a good rest.
The second thing you should look for is price.
Unless you have unlimited money to spend on your dog you really don't want to pay more than you have to for a good bed.
Doing some comparison shopping will help you to find a comfortable bed at a reasonable price.
With all the wonderful things our beloved dogs give to us isn't it only fair we give them a comfortable place to sleep.
