Is teeth whitening safe? Will it permanently hurt, injure or otherwise discolor my teeth? And most importantly are ALL home based teeth whiteners created equal...
or are there significant differences between the different methods on the market? In this article we take a quick and insightful look at the teeth whitening products and safety, and see whether starting a home based cosmetic whitening regimen is SAFE for you to start! Filed Under: The Straight Scoop on Home Based Teeth Whiteners Want to know the truth? Most of the better products on the market are equivalent, in terms of safety and solution, to the sorts of treatments you would get at your local cosmetic dentist.
Short of laser or "blue light" treatments that you obviously CAN'T get from home, most of the top shelf products use similar whitening ingredients that are professionally available.
(at a fraction of the cost) As an example? I've had my OWN teeth whitened both professionally...
and from home, using teeth whitening gels and trays.
The home based solution has actually given me FAR better results.
Want to know why? Control and frequency.
I can use the trays as often as I like..
..
and I'm not limited to the results gleaned from one treatment alone, which is unfortunately, the case with most dental procedures.
(unless you buy extra solution for home use) Does this make the whitening process safe? Yes, absolutely...
but ONLY specifically when you use a solution that is approved by the ADA for cosmetic whitening purposes.
Do not go out and buy a solution that looks fly by night, or of unreliable ingredient value.
There are some shady (no pun intended..
:-) operations out there that have capitalized on the whitening "craze"...
and some of the products being sold look pretty questionable to me.
Always look for genuine, licensed dental professionals who are involved with the product, and always look for some sort of endorsement or conformity with national dental product guidelines.
And remember...
Some people have tooth sensitivity to gels.
(I do) It usually goes away after a day or two...
is not dangerous, and won't hurt you.
(if you have such sensitivity, just avoid cold or hot beverages for about 30 minutes after removing your gel, or washing away the solution)
