Wall Molding in Traditional Homes
- Crown molding is a popular style that highlights the wall and ceiling with decorative projections, and sits balanced in the angle between the two surfaces. It tends to give the room a rich ambiance, and can also be used as ornamental dressing for cabinets and built-in furniture.
- Cornice molding is placed at a higher angle closer to where the ceiling meets the wall. It tends to work well in rooms with high ceilings.
- Frieze molding usually runs under crown or cornice molding. It has a wide, flat profile and is more common in neoclassical architecture and design.
- Flexible molding is used on curved surfaces such as arches, doorways and circular rooms. Because of these curved surfaces, this molding must be more durable than other kinds.
