Hi, I'm Michelle O'Connor, celebrity hairstylist and today I'm going to show you how to comb through African-American hair. Today, I'm going to use Mizani Detangle. This product is going to allow me to glide through the hair. It's going to give it slip and it's going to untangle the hair and just make the combing and brushing easier. So one of the things you want to make sure you have first and foremost are the correct tools. I have here to show you today a paddle brush and a wide tooth comb. Keep in mind that you want to make sure that the bristles and the teeth on your comb aren't so fine that it tangles and is not able to get through that hair. so first of all I'm going to take my detangler and just spray it liberally throughout the entire head of hair. You want to make sure that you're never brushing through dry hair and spraying detangler in the hair will allow for the hair to remain supple and wet instead of expanding and becoming frizzy. We're going to section this hair depending on the density. If it's very very thick it might be three or four sections. If it's finer, you might be able to get away with two sections and we're just going to start towards the end and work our way up to the top. You never want to start at the top and pull through the hair. Curly hair has a tendency to tangle and frizz and so with the use of your detangler as well as working through the bottom to your way up you'll be able to just glide through that hair. And as you can see very easy, the brush just glides right through. When we're done with that section, we pull down another one. I like to use my pinky to part. If you feel like you've come across a section that is still a little bit dry after spraying the entire head, just go right in and zone right in on that section and I'll show you with my comb. It's the same concept. You want to start at the ends and work your way up and then once you get to the top you should be able to just glide right through that hair. Always hold the hair. You never just want to yank through the hair in case it does tangle. That will be very painful to the person, yourself, so you just want to make sure that you are anchoring that hair for support and then continue to work your way up as so. And as you can see the comb goes through that hair beautifully. I'm brushing through Jen's hair wet. Generally when you're dealing with curly and excessively curly hair that is the preferred method. So one quick tip for you guys, keep in mind that if your hair is very very thick, don't overwhelm yourself. Section your hair in as many sections as you need to to be able to get through your entire head of hair with ease. And that's how you comb through African-American hair. I'm Michelle O'Connor, and thanks for watching.
