How to Make Craft Lights

    • 1). Cut apart several egg cartons to collect the pointed pieces between the cups, shaping the pointed pieces as you cut to look a bit like a trumpet flower or a morning glory. Cut a 1/2-inch-wide hole in the center of each point

    • 2). Set up your cardboard points with the points pointing up and paint them with flat spray paint. Use a color that complements your room--saturated accent colors work well. You can also spray paint several groups of the cardboard flower shapes in different colors to add variation to your design.

    • 3). Cut a taffeta ribbon into 3-inch sections, one for each of your twinkling lights. You can use all one color or several different colors that complement your room.

    • 4). Roll each section into a ½-inch wide cylinder around a twinkling light bulb, securing it with a small rubber band around the base of the light. These will form the stamens of your flowers.

    • 5). Slide the hole in each cardboard point over the ribbon stamen and bulb of each twinkling light. The ribbon will keep the cardboard from sliding back off again. Mix and match ribbons and point colors, staggering them evenly so your light string looks balanced.

    • 6). String up your lights around the edges of your room and line the windows and mirrors. Wrap them around four-poster beds or tangle them lightly in bed frames. During the day, they'll look like flower garlands. At night, turn them on to enjoy their diffused light.
