Chrysanthemums, or mums, have stems that grow 6 inches high and have flowers 1 to 1 1/4 inches across. Flowers come in orange, yellow, pink and many shades of gold. These flowers prefer full sun and as perennials could survive two or more seasons with mild winters.

    Pansy (Viola x. wittrockiana)

Pansies grow large flowers, 2 to 4 inches across, with many colors. Flowers can come in solid colors or blotched color patches. They grow up to 8 inches high and prefer partial shade. Once blooms begin to wilt, remove them to lengthen blooming time. Grown as annuals, pansies should be replanted every year.
