Mustache Grooming Styles

The most traditional look is the mustache worn without the aid of any wax, or anything except for a comb. This type of mustache is also called the handlebar look. In this form, the hair grows naturally out of the face and is styled and pointed in a slight upward direction. This is a look worn by older men who are used to the styles of a few decades ago. - The pencil mustache is a classy look that requires some maintenance. This look requires that you grow out the mustache much like you would the natural look mustache. However, after the mustache is grown out, it is thinned using a razor or a hair trimmer. The mustache will be above your lip and can be as thin as a pencil, or thicker depending on the man's taste. This look was famously worn by actor Clark Gable.
- The Fu Manchu is a combination mustache and part beard. The Mustache is grown much like the natural look mustache. However, the length of the mustache is grown downward past the lips and to the chin. The mustache does not connect together at the chin like a goatee would; the hair never meets, giving it a disconnected look.
- The horseshoe look is a type of variation of the Fu Machu. The basic concept is the same: The mustache is grown down past the lips and to the chin. However, the mustache does not begin to curve in together at the chin like the Fu Manchu; rather, the hair is grown straight down where it is groomed and cut in the shape of a horseshoe, like an inverted "U" shape. This style of mustache is worn by wrestling star Hulk Hogan.
