How to Grow a Climbing Rose on a Stucco Wall
- 1). Trim the rose to its desired height and shape. Wear gloves and use a strong pair of sharpened pruning shears to remove all dead or broken branches and spent flowers.
- 2). Determine the desired height and width of your climbing rose. Mark these measurements on the stucco wall, using a measuring tape or yardstick and a soft-lead pencil. Mark the present height of your rose on the wall.
- 3). Mark spots on the wall approximately 12 to 18 inches apart within the area you have marked for height and width. The marks will create a grid-like checkerboard pattern.
- 4). Put on your protective eyewear. Hammer in rustproof nails, hooks or electrical staples at the marked points.
- 5). Attach the rose canes to the wall by securing them with twine or plastic ties to the nails, hooks or staples you installed.
- 6). Prune your rose regularly to maintain its conformity to the climbing structure on the wall.
