No one wants to live in fear.
Sadly, those who have experienced a panic attack do not have the capability to take control of their lives and have become prisoners in their own homes.
Through the years, various recovery programs have been developed.
Some require the use of drugs while others do not require the individual to ingest anything.
The first step to be able to find a recovery program is for that person to get in touch with a professional.
Although he or she cannot drive to the clinic, there is nothing that can prevent the person from calling someone to come over to the house.
Yes, if you dig around you will find someone who does house calls.
It takes time to find the right professional that you can trust to help you out.
It is best to begin your search by talking to your regular physician who will be able to recommend someone who can help you.
If you do not like this person, you should have a back up plan by also getting in touch with other professionals recommended by friends and family.
Some of the important questions you should ask include what is their experience with anxiety disorders, how much are their fees, what is their success rate and what techniques do they use.
It is up to you whether to hire this person on the spot or take time to interview others.
Don't rush into making any decision.
As mentioned before the doctor might prescribe medication.
Tranquilizers are commonly used and some examples of these include Ativan, Kionopin, Tranxene, Valium and Xanax.
All of these are fast acting drugs that are designed to suppress the activity in the central nervous system and may also be a potential hazard as these are very addictive.
There are also antidepressants.
Some examples are Anafranil, Celexa, Elavil, Paxil, Trofanil and Zoloft.
These drugs have a few side effects so you should ask your doctor about them.
If there are no improvements after using one drug, it is possible to increase the dosage or be prescribed something else.
Being ready to find a recovery program and then actually going through with it requires an open mind and a desire for change.
Aside from drugs, your doctor might try something else like behavior therapy wherein he or she will try to change how you think.
This is achieved by bringing you face to face with that situation.
The doctor can let you face it in one stroke but if you cannot handle it, then try letting you handle it one step at a time.
