Child Birth - The Transitional Phase
The contractions are not so frequent but they last longer and they are even more painful.
In contrast to the previous two phases - the pain shoots up, drops, again shoots up and then drops again.
It is in this phase of Child Birth that water starts to break.
There is another surge that takes place.
The pregnant woman develops cravings, starts getting very impatient, very moody and starts screaming at everybody around.
She also tends to shiver, fall sick and constantly shake.
If what the parents had in mind was to give birth to their child without a pain killer, they should know that they are in for a rough ride.
They are usually forced to consider an epidural - which is a drug inserted into the nerves that carry the pain signals so that the entire area is numbed.
The pain in tremendous and it is not advisable to go ahead without an epidural which will prove to be quite efficient.
What a pregnant mother can be thankful for is that at the end of the Transitional Phase, there is a period of relaxation where the baby and she can relax without any contractions.
There are certain things that one can do to ease the pain off the pregnant mother.
One is to ask for a stronger pain killer if the one that you are already being administered is not doing the trick.
You can even do certain to speed up the labour process so that it is less painful.
