Different foods have a tendency to be considered for one season or another. For example, if I said watermelon, you'd probably think of summer, fun, heat, picnics and the beach. Okay, maybe not all of them, but you get the point. If I were to say hot apple cider, Christmas would probably come to mind, with all of the holiday events that come around at that time of year. Parties, presence and festivities and yes, maybe even football playoffs. It's the nature of food. Birthdays, cakes are thought of and so forth. But there are very few foods, that can be enjoyed anytime of year. This doesn't mean that they aren't around. For example, strawberries can be had all year around, but there peak season is June to August. But what about tomatoes?
Tomatoes are one of those rear vegetables that can be eaten year round without an interruption of any kind, unless you are one that doesn't care for them. One of the wonderful things about making soup with tomatoes, is that you can have it in either cold weather or hot weather, thereby increasing its flexibility in your diet.
What this also does is allow for you to have something warm to eat in the winter, and conversely have something cold to eat in the summer. Since tomatoes are available year round, you will never be short of your supply of vitamin A and C. Most people are familiar with Vitamin C and it's ability to increase the immune system, and that's a good thing. We want and need to have a strong immune system, especially during the winter months. But, what about vitamin A? What does it do for you and is it important to have? As you might expect if it's a vitamin, it's important to have. Vitamin A, helps with your eyesight. So, perhaps if you're having trouble with your eyes, more tomatoes may just help solve that problem.
Now a very common argument by people is that they can't get fresh tomatoes year round. And if they can, that they are very very expensive. The simple solution for you is this; get grow boxes and grow the tomatoes yourself. This way, you will know exactly what's in them and you'll be able to pull them straight from the vine and put them in your soups, tomato sauce, salads and stews. That alone is worth having them. Most people will be quick to tell you that fresh is better, and you can truly taste the difference.
Now that you can see the benefits of tomato soup, both in the winter and summer, there's no reason to not find ways to put more tomatoes in your diet, as well as more soups! Bon appetite!
