Ten Tips to Get Fit
- Join a gym, it may sound obvious but the whole process of going to the gym, whilst initially may feel like a bit of a chore, after a period of time it will definitely get easier and turns exercise into a potential social occasion as you get to know the people with whom you train.
- Exercise with somebody, this just makes the process easier, as if you are not feeling up to it, then the other person with whom you are exercising may provide that extra bit of motivation for that day and visa-versa!
- Create a routine, make your exercise nights certain nights of the week.
- Start slowly, if you haven't done any exercise for years, you can't expect to be running a marathon the very next week.
- Get a personal trainer, as this will help to motivate you.
If you are paying for this, it is more likely that you will make the effort.
Plus a personal trainer will push you more than you may yourself, but in a safe way. - Vary your exercise.
If you only ever run around the same block at the same time of day it is likely that you are going to get bored.
Try different things, how about a martial art, or some swimming.
A combination of exercises will generally get you into good shape. - Attend classes.
This can be a great way of expanding your social circle whilst getting into shape.
Plus there is the banter that can occur if you miss a week or are struggling with a particular exercise, this can really help to break down your barriers. - Set a goal.
If you have a goal to run say a 5k race, this can then be your motivation for your exercise.
Then every time you run, or go to the gym you are working towards your goal.
You can even go so far as to set a weekly plan, and this will help to keep you going when you have had a bad day at work. - Keep a record of the weeks exercise that you have completed including your heart rates if possible.
This will definitely help you to demonstrate that you are making progress, even if it is steady. - Don't spoil it all by getting wrecked at the weekend! There's nothing worse than spending hours in the gym all week and then spending the entire weekend in the pub.
Of course this is better than not doing the exercise at all, but try to keep alcohol intake to a moderate level, by doing this your fitness levels are likely to improve much more quickly.
