- 1). Split or cut a concrete paver using a pitching chisel or pitcher. You can also use a bolster chisel and trim it with a cold chisel. If using a hammer when cutting concrete pavers, use a lump hammer.
- 2). Cut large clay brick pavers using a bench or a table saw. Cutting control joints or trench edges in your concrete pavers requires a floor saw. Hand held cut-off saws, also referred to as a Stihl saw, are used for tarmac and asphalt surfaces.
- 3). Cut your concrete pavers using a petrol-engined power saw, if electricity is not available. When electricity is not a problem, using an electric model, similar to a large angle grinder, is a good choice.
- 4). Choose the right blade type when cutting your concrete pavers. Abrasive blades are used for cutting stone and concrete. Diamond tipped blades are also used for concrete. These blades have a longer life span and a constant depth of cut.
- 5). Squeeze a paver between an upper and lower blade on a block and slab splitter. Exerting pressure causes the paver to snap along the blade line. There are three basic types of block and slab splitters; manual for smooth pavers, manual with individual toothed blades, for pavers with irregular surfaces, and hydraulic for cutting thick stone pavers.
